Focus: To foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of India's youth through access to the sport of soccer at all ages and various levels of competition.
Set up in 2000, IYSA was established with the aim of instilling in young players a lifelong passion for the sport of soccer. Today, the organisation, along with improving the standards of soccer among the youth of India, has been able to also provide a platform for underprivileged children to play the sport.
IYSA has established Mini Soccer Leagues for boys and girls, with over 600 children from various schools participating in these leagues between 2001-2004. The Super Soccer Academy, a partner organisation of the IYSA, coaches 400 children every week and runs summer soccer camps which combine coaching with a variety of adventure sports and team-building games.
Coaching and leagues for 'street children' is one of their four major football programmes. In November 2003, IYSA started the 1st 'Street Kids' Soccer League. Sixty children from the Salaam Baalak Trust, Butterflies, and Karm Marg were coached and played in the League. Each child was given a soccer kit and football boots to play in. The league also featured eight girls and at the end of the season every child received a trophy.
The Soccer Street programme coaches street children of the Salaam Baalak Trust every week. Older children have been given an opportunity to play in the IYSA Mini Soccer League alongside school children from prestigious private schools such as the Shri Ram Schools, DPS, British School etc. Each child was given a football scholarship, which included soccer kit, boots, transportation, and refreshment for the five-month league.
IYSA also develops football opportunities for girls, and started India's first 'girls only' league. This highly popular, Delhi-based league, is for senior schoolgirls, and the IYSA gives free coaching to all the girls who enroll. Today there are over 100 girls playing in all IYSA programmes.
Annual programme budget: Approx Rs. 12 Lakh.
IYSA is registered charitable trust (25861/VI) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
