Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN)
Focus: Promotion of sustainable livelihoods to enable the rural poor.
Set up in 1983, PRADAN works towards creating livelihood opportunities for the marginalised rural poor through 19 grassroots level projects, spanning 26 districts in seven states of India. Over a period of time, PRADAN projects have assisted about 100,000 rural poor families to secure their livelihoods. PRADAN works in a spirit of enabling communities to build upon their skills, initiative, resources, and entitlements rather than delivering services or solutions to them. To this end PRADAN has deployed over 200 professionals working in small teams, with the belief that social change only happens with sensitive action on the ground by well-educated and socially concerned people.
The livelihood programmes of PRADAN can be classified broadly as:
- self-help groups, to organise women and to leverage mainstream finances to invest in livelihood activities
- land and water based livelihoods
- forest based livelihoods
- livestock based livelihoods
- non-farm micro enterprises
Annual programme budget: Rs. 701.7 Lakh
PRADAN is a registered society (S/13434) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
