Focus: Care and psychosocial rehabilitation for persons with mental health needs.

The Richmond Fellowship Society (India) provides care and psychosocial rehabilitation for persons with mental health needs within India and also to some from neighbouring countries like Nepal. In 1999, the Society established the Richmond Fellowship Post Graduate College for Psychosocial Rehabilitation affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. It offers a two-year Masters programme that is fully recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India.

The process of rehabilitation is facilitated through three kinds of centres:

  • JYOTHI - the long stay/group home that can cater to six men and six women who have been treated in therapeutic communities and need long-term support to function in society. Duration of stay can range from over a year to life-long support
  • ASHA - the halfway home that can house and treat up to ten men and ten women with chronic schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorders for periods ranging between six months to a year. Support for families that provide care for the mentally ill is possible through the 'Respite Care' for residents up to six months
  • CHETANA - the day care centre that offers vocational training (tailoring, plastic moulding, printing, typing, and basic computer skills) to day clients, as well as residents of Asha and Jyothi with schizophrenia, chronic epilepsy, affective disorders, or mild mental retardation with behavioural problems. Duration of training is for a period of one year and placement services are also offered for suitable candidates

Annual programme budget: Rs. 71 Lakh.

The Richmond Fellowship Society is a registered society (S/16800) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
