Focus: Improving the quality of life of terminally ill cancer patients.

A joint project of the Indian Cancer Society (Bangalore) and the Rotary Club of Bangalore Indiranagar, Karunashraya started work in 1994 with the primary aim of improving the quality of life of terminally ill cancer patients. An important aspect of Karunashraya's work is helping patients - often through a full-time psychologist - and their families deal with the mental trauma of losing a loved one.

The organisation believes that every individual has a right to die with dignity and spares no efforts to provide this care to all who need it. The project accomplishes this objective through:

• the in-patient hospice, a facility for 50 patients who are provided with the best medical, psychological, and emotional care
  
• home-care facilities, where nurses from the centre visit patients at home and provide them with medical and emotional care

Annual programme budget: Approx Rs. 52 Lakh.

Karunshraya Bangalore Hospice Trust is a registered charitable trust (708) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
