Established in 1999, Friends of Carterpuri and Choma Villages thrives on the guidance and zeal of its dynamic founder, Col Taneja. Named after former American President Jimmy Carter, the Carterpuri government high school had barely any infrastructure when the residents of Palam Vihar led by Col Taneja, got together and established Friends of Carterpuri and Choma Villages.

With the help of The Carter Center in Atlanta and local corporate support of Price Waterhouse Coopers and Hughes Software Systems, the initial tasks were to build up both the infrastructure and educational aspects of the government high school at Carterpuri village and primary school at Choma Village. In 2003, there were 1,150 students enrolled at the high school and primary school levels. In addition to the pedagogical aspects, the education programme also deals with health issues, protection of the environment, and promotion of communal harmony.

Other programme areas include:

• empowerment of women through vocational training skills
  
• computer literacy and English language support classes
  
• water harvesting strategies for the community

Annual programme budget: Rs. 6 Lakh.

Friends of Carterpuri and Choma Villages is registered society (1315) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
