Focus: Shelter for the disadvantaged child.

Udayan - eternal sunrise in Sanskrit - was established in 1994, and supports disadvantaged children thorough its Udayan Ghars - residential homes. At present, the 40 abandoned and orphaned children who live in the four Udayan Ghars study in neighbourhood English-medium schools as the Ghars are situated consciously in middle class areas "to encourage two-way interaction and ultimately community ownership of our children". Recently Udayan Care spread its wings and initiated Udayan Shalini ('a dignified woman') fellowships, which have provided educational/vocational opportunities to 72 girl students at school and college levels.

Udayan Care encourages innovative, short-term forms of support such as an individual sponsoring a ride for the children in their cars, encouraging school children to collect old newspapers and raddi to be sold for the organisation, corporate working individuals pledging cups of tea and donating a meal a day for a child as well as sharing their experiences with the children. Along with sponsoring a child, meals, books, and support salaries of staff can also be sponsored.

Annual programme budget: Rs. 36 Lakh.

Udayan Care is a registered charitable trust (828/IV) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
