First established in 1991, Action For Autism (AFA) pioneered the autism movement in India and the subcontinent. Today, from its premises in Chirag Dilli village, AFA runs and organises:
- Open Door; a specialised school for children with autism
- a range of therapy and training programmes including the innovative Mother Child training for Outstation mothers
- a Diploma in Special Education (DSE) in Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) under the Rehabilitation Council of India
- a resource centre
- nationwide training and networks with families and other autism organisations all over South Asia
AFA also organises nation-wide training workshops, publishes a journal, website, and manuals, and translates materials.
It is currently fund raising to build The National Centre for Advocacy, Research, Rehabilitation, and Training in Autism, which will allow it to extend its activities and services to reach more people. The centre will address needs critical to the development, growth, and inclusion of persons with ASD within the community.
Annual programme budget: Rs. 25 Lakh.
Action For Autism is a registered society (S27006) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. All donations towards construction of The National Centre are 100% tax exempt under Section 35AC.
