Focus: Residential and vocational training home for street children.

A movement started by street children and young adults in 1997, Karm Marg has come a long way since its early beginnings on the platforms of the New Delhi railway station. Among its achievements is the establishment of Karm Gaon, a long-time ambition of the children as well as their caregivers. This residential care provides basic education, shelter, nutrition, health, and recreational facilities for children between the ages of four and eighteen. The structure is child-friendly, alive with the imaginative interplay of space and colours; children grow their own vegetables, cook for themselves, and recycle.

Vocational training is a major thrust of their support and it is based on an innovative concept called 'kabad se jugaad'. Papier-mache, stationary items, tailoring, pottery, and screen-printing are some of the activities that are based on this philosophy.

Some of its programmme activities include:

• awareness programmes in collaboration with various agencies in the field of sex education
  
• psychological support as well as rehabilitation of children with their families
  
• advocacy through street plays and puppet shows as well as other media

Annual programme budget: Rs. 12 Lakh.

Karm Marg is a registered society (S/ 31258) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
