ASHA Foundation was established in 1998 as a charitable, voluntary trust helping HIV/AIDS infected patients, their families and society. Today, the programmes at ASHA Foundation are in pursuance with their aim to fight the incidence of AIDS in India through instruction, counselling, treatment, and care with the help of strategic alliances with various organisations and hospitals.

The programmes here range from imparting value-based sexual education in the curricula of more than 120 schools; promotion of child welfare through counselling, free medical and nutritional care; to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of the HIV virus.

Life at the Crossroads - the curriculum-based program for students - uses a well-researched, interactive mechanism to highlight the urgency of protection from AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Through interactive sessions focused on character building, abstinence, and life skills development, the programme has been successful across schools in Bangalore. Other programme areas include:

• a free HIV/AIDS clinic in Bangalore, which treats patients with HIV/AIDS. The clinic provides free medicine, healthcare, and nutrition to pregnant mothers and their babies
• the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) project aims to arouse the sensibilities of obstetricians and paediatricians, and train counsellors and nurses in pre and postnatal care of HIV positive mothers
• tele-counselling service and a 24-hour toll free automated helpline, which provides information counselling assistance as well as basic information on HIV/AIDS

Annual programme budget: Rs. 29 Lakh.

ASHA Foundation is a registered charitable trust (393/IV) and all donations are exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act.
